Whether it’s the humidity, a wrong haircut or heat damage we have all experienced a moment where our hair looks out of control for seemingly no reason at all. If this sounds all too familiar to you and you are wondering how to deal with frizzy hair, then keep on reading.
Sydney based hairstylist Anthony Nader shares 5 tips, tricks and products specifically designed for getting rid of frizz and living that silky-smooth lifestyle.
1/ Shampoo & Conditioner
The consensus among stylists is that those prone to frizzy hair should wash it just once or twice a week. Once dry hair is exposed to the moisture it wants to absorb it, all resulting in unwanted frizz.
Avoid sulfates as it strips the natural oil from the strands, causing the hair to dry out and frizz. Instead, use products with Silicone, Argan Oil, Avocado Oil, Coconut Oil, Hydrogenated Castor Oil or Sebacic acid.
Ensure you use conditioner every time you shampoo your hair to keep your cuticles hydrated and smooth. A little tip - rinse it off with cold water to seal the hair cuticles.

2/ Use a hydrating mask or treatment
The right mask will help to control frizz, nourish dry ends and even prolong your hair colour, allowing it to look glossy and healthy for longer. We love Brasil Cacau Hydrating Hair Complex Mask as it contains a natural cocoa butter with a moisturizing effect that increases the supple of the strands.
Restore your hair to its glory days with Olaplex Hair Perfector No.3 if your hair is damaged by heavy heat-styling, colour-processing and bleaching. The formula works at a molecular level to repair damaged bonds within your hair, which are synonymous with long-term colouring and/or heat styling.
3/ Blow-drying
The reason your hair gets frizzy is because of lack of moisture, so let your hair air dry 90% before blow drying. The more moisture your hair has, the less frizz you will have. For a healthy and shiny finish, we recommend the Parlux Alyon Air Ionizer Tech Hair Dryer. Trust us, it’s a game-changer and worth every penny.
4/ Reduce heat styling
Make sure you always use a Heat Protector Spray when applying heat to achieve your desired style. We highly recommend the ghd platinum+ styler that recognises each section of hair and adapts the temperature to ensure the optimum temperature of 185ºC is consistent across the two plates, allowing beautiful results in only one stroke. Ionic conditioning technology releases millions of ions for salon-like smooth & glossy shiny hair with less frizz.
5/ Invest in a silk pillowcase
A cotton pillowcase acts like velcro, latching onto the fibres of your hair and pulling it apart, making frizz even worse. You can also reduce friction by swapping out your cotton pillowcase for a silk pillowcase. The slippery fabric allows hair cuticles to glide across the pillowcase rather than get snagged by it.
